Publisher's Column - November 29, 2019

By Lindsay Keller, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Skokie, Niles, Park Ridge, and Far Northwest Chicago November 29, 2019

Life is complicated. We always seem to have plans that don't end up turning out how we planned.

I have another part time job. My husband and I work opposite hours. We each spend most of our "free time" watching our daughter. I do the majority of my Macaroni Kid work after I get home from my other job, when my husband and daughter are in bed. I always have these grand plans for how much I'm going to work on Macaroni Kid at night and then something gets in the way. I stay at my other job later than planned. I end up with a migraine (all too often, may I add). I'm completely exhausted. I often find myself frustrated at a lack of time.

Tonight when I got home, I heard my husband snoring and my daughter's little feet running in and out of her bed. At first, I thought, "Oh no. Just one more thing to keep me from working." But then my daughter opened her door and I saw her little face light up, so excited to see me home from work--something that usually doesn't happen. My husband puts her to bed more often than I do. Tonight I got to give her a big hug and a big kiss and read stories with her. She fell asleep half way through the second book. Tonight I am thankful for my family and that I got to put my daughter to bed (albeit for the second time tonight) an extra night this week.

I am working on some great holiday giveaways and a free personalized letter from Santa for your kids. But today is Thanksgiving and my plans didn't turn out how I planned. So you'll have to wait a little bit longer.

What are you thankful for today?
