Jefferson Memorial Park Review

By Lindsay Keller, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Skokie, Niles, Park Ridge, and Far Northwest Chicago May 15, 2019

Jefferson Memorial Park, part of the Chicago Park District, is one of my favorite parks. Located roughly one block from the Jefferson Park transit center, I consider Jefferson Park to be a community park. It is more spacious than many of the neighborhood parks and also home to the annual Jeff Fest.

Let's talk about the playground. There smaller structure for 2- 5 year olds and a larger one for 5 - 12 year olds. The thing I love about the larger structure is that it has long low grade ramps that make it easy for kids to get up and down. My daughter, like many other toddlers, loves to play on the older kids play structure. The long low grade ramps make is easy for kids to get up and down and it doesn't feel as crowded. There are also plenty of climbing, swinging and hanging elements for the bigger kids, including a climbing wall. The bike spring rider is definitely a kids' favorite. You'll also find four toddler swings, three regular swings and one seat swing.

The playground area itself is spacious with benches around the perimeter. It's easy to find a place to sit and have a snack, and you can grab a drink from the drinking fountain. There are some trees in the vicinity that may provide some shade on hot days, but they won't shade the whole area. The good news is that there is also a water spray feature in the playground area to help keep everyone cool. Or you can just head on over to the park's outdoor pool instead.

In addition, Jefferson Memorial Park has two baseball/softball fields, a soccer/football field, three tennis courts and a combo volleyball/basketball court. The park also has a fieldhouse and year-round programming for both youth and adults.
