As parents, we tend to focus on our kids and what we need to do to take care of them. I can't count how many times my husband and I have talked about things that need to be done around the house and I have responded, "Add it to the list." I want to take care of these extra things, but I have to prioritize everyday things like laundry and dishes. As parents, we often pay so much attention to our kids that we almost forget to take care of ourselves.
This week, I was able to do one of those extra things around the house (call it spring cleaning if you like) and take some time to pay attention to myself. This felt like such an accomplishment for me. I finally took some time to go through my closet and pull out clothes that I no longer wear. I have gone through my daughter's clothes countless times and bought her tons of new ones, but I was still wearing holey pajamas and hadn't gone through my closet since before she was born.
But do you know what else I did? I finally went out and bought myself a few new clothes! Just because I'm not growing everyday doesn't mean my clothes don't wear out and I don't deserve new ones.
So what's my point? Mother's Day and Father's Day are both right around the corner. Don't be afraid to do a little something for yourself and don't feel guilty about it. Our kids are so important to us, but we have to remember to do a little something for ourselves too!
