Brooks Park Review

By Lindsay Keller, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Skokie, Niles, Park Ridge, and Far Northwest Chicago April 26, 2019

Spring is in the air and the days are getting warmer. My daughter and I have been taking advantage of the warmer weather and heading out to check out our local parks! One of our early trips this year was to Brooks Park, part of the Chicago Park District. Located in the Edison Park neighborhood, it is known for it's boxing program.

But that's not why we went. We went to check out the playground! The main play structure has an area for smaller children and an area for larger children. With a musical theme and climbing elements, slides for all ages, it is sure to be a hit with the little ones. The climbing structure is rated for ages 5 - 12, as is typical with many other local parks. But that doesn't deter younger kids, like my daughter. The playground area also has two baby swings, three adult swings and one swing chair. My daughter's favorite addition to this park is the bouncy car that she can sit in and drive.

Although there are no benches, there is a raised concrete edge around the playground that many parents use to sit and watch their children. There is also one picnic table in the playground area. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be much shade, which will probably make for some hot equipment come summer. The good news is, they also have a water spray feature for those hot summer days. However, it is located near the west end of the park, which is the opposite side from the playground, and not within viewing distance.

In addition, Brooks Park has two baseball fields, a soccer/football field, two tennis courts and horseshoe pits with a paved walking trails throughout. Their boxing program (and other seasonal programs) are run from the fieldhouse, which also has indoor restrooms, a drinking fountain and a vending machine.
