Pioneer Park Review

By Lindsay Keller, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Skokie, Niles, Park Ridge, and Far Northwest Chicago April 17, 2019

It's finally getting warmer out and Pioneer Park, part of Niles Park District, opened last past weekend. So my daughter and I headed over to the playground to check it out. Now, Pioneer Park is not known for their playground--it's more like a welcomed perk. Pioneer Park is known for their batting cages and miniature golf course. During the Spring and Fall, Pioneer Park is open full days on the weekend and has evening hours during the week. During the Summer, the park will be open full days. However, the playground is outside of the gate and can be used at times when the batting cages and mini golf are closed.

Let's talk about the playground area. The main structure is meant for ages 5 - 12, but my three year old had no problems with it. It's pretty standard, with multiple slides and a tunnel. The playground area also has two adult swings and two baby swings, a sand play area and, my daughter's favorite, a teeter totter that seats four. There are benches along one side of the playground and you can easily see the whole play area. There is also one picnic table in the playground area and a drinking fountain.

If you are there during business hours, they also have a concession stand and indoor restrooms. Since we were there on a Monday afternoon in the Spring, the restrooms weren't open, but the fieldhouse at Brooks Park across the street was open, and they have restrooms and a vending machine.

Their prices at Pioneer Park are affordable too! Eighteen holes of mini golf will cost you $6 per person and 15 balls at the batting cage is only $1. On Friday Family Fun Nights (every Friday night from 5 - 9 pm), $8 will get you a round of mini golf, a batting cage token, a hot dog, chips and a small drink. They also host birthday parties and groups and have room rentals that can accommodate 20 - 30 people.

In addition, Pioneer Park has a baseball/softball field and a soccer/football field.
