Pleasant Point Park Review

By Lindsay Keller, Publisher Macaroni Kid Skokie, Niles, Park Ridge and Far Northwest Chicago May 14, 2018

I recently read an article talking about how many people in local areas live near parks. As the weather gets warmer and we spend more time outside, parks are a place we frequently visit, especially with our kids. So in the coming weeks, I am going make a point to visit some of our local parks (I'm sure my daughter will be genuinely excited for this!) and then review them for you.

This week's feature park is Pleasant Point Park in the Norwood Park neighborhood of Chicago. My family and I randomly discovered this park one evening on a walk. This is a small neighborhood park located at the corner of W Imlay Ave and N Newcastle Ave. The small playground area has a number of features. It has a small climbing structure with a double slide (pictured above), four adult swings, two baby swings, and a saucer swing (literally a big plastic saucer attached to an arch to make a swing). There is an additional single slide that goes down a small hill between some beautifully landscaped rocks. My 2.5 year old daughter really enjoyed the slides and swings!

But the thing that drew my attention immediately when we found this park was the huge rope climbing structure. It has ropes, ladders, and hammocks to sit in and it looks like something you would see the chimpanzees or gorillas climbing on at the zoo. It was evident that it was a favorite of any kid big enough to use it. I have to admit, I climbed up just a little (and probably would have done more if there were fewer kids there using it!).

In addition, the park also has a good sized field that would be great for a game of Frisbee or a picnic on a blanket, a basketball court and a couple of small picnic tables. Be aware that there is no field house or bathroom since this is just a small neighborhood park. While it is a great place for the kids to run or climb off some energy and have a small snack, I wouldn't recommend making a day of it unless you live close and can run home to use the bathroom.

Park Details:

  • The park is open 6 am to 11 pm, everyday.
