Rosedale Park Review

By Lindsay Keller, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Skokie, Niles, Park Ridge, and Far Northwest Chicago August 10, 2019

This week we finally got back to visiting a new park and our playtime adventure took us to Rosedale Park, part of the Chicago Park District. As a parent, I thought this park was awesome.

It has two separate areas, each with its own perks. One side has a traditional looking playground with swings; a four person bouncy teeter totter; a large play structure with multiple slides, a climbing wall and rope climb area; and a water feature. There is plenty of room to kids to run and play and an array of equipment all in one area. There are a couple of picnic tables for parents to rest on and kids to have a snack, and--possibly my favorite part--there is quite a bit of shade! Hallelujah! The water feature is on one end of this area and it is on a timer so it goes on and off every few minutes. The only thing that I would caution parents about it that the cement in the water feature area gets very slippery and my daughter slipped and fell on it twice while we were there. This playground area also has rubber play surface (as opposed to wood chips), which I love.

On the other side of the fieldhouse is a second playground that is all ropes and climbing. There is a super cool feature that I haven't seen anywhere else. It's a cone shaped climbing element (right side of photo below) that is also a merry-go-round and spins (with someone pushing it, or course)! You will also find a disk swing in this area. The signage indicates the area is meant for kids ages 5 - 12 years old, but as usual, my three year old loved it. This area does have wood chips. The one down side is that the two play areas are on opposite sides of the fieldhouse, so you can't see kids playing in both areas at the same time.

Rosedale Park has a fieldhouse for convenient restroom access and drinking fountains. It also features a junior sized soccer field, a softball field, basketball standard, and two tennis courts. Rosedale Park offers an array of classes for young kids all the way through seniors.
